OBD II Bluetooth PowerUp

Just upgraded my Bluetooth OBD II adapter with class 1 power module. Now I can diagnose a car sitting at home.
You can get bluetooth OBD2 adapters from Amazon but neither of them has class 1 power bluetooth module with ceramic antenna! =)

  1. Hi, can you please comment more about what parts, how it's connected, etc. for those of us without as much electronics knowledge. I REALLY would like to do this myself but have no idea where to start.

    1. Well, you need Class1 bluetooth serial module those are rated for 100m range, and Class2 modules rated to 15m or so. Then you need obd usb adapter, maybe bluetooth one is ok too, I haven't seen one inside. Wired adapters has FTDI FT232RL chip, those has RX and TX pins (search for datasheet in google). You need to solder wires to RX and TX pins on this chip and solder these wires to your bluetooth module RX and TX pins. Adapter has 5v power rail, but bare bt modules use 3.3v (there are modules which can work with 5v). So you need to add a 3.3v voltage regulator to power bt module.
I probably can write a tutorial with images if there is a demand, but I don't have spare bt modules and adapter on hands for now.
